The nonprofit group Walkway Over the Hudson began a new era on May 25 when its Board of Directors elected Rhinebeck's Sally Mazzarella to serve as its new chairperson. Walkway Over the Hudson will flip the switch on its new LED lighting system on Saturday evening, May 15, marking the first time members the general public will be able to visit the popular new park overlooking the Hudson River at night. Advanced tickets are required to attend the fundraising event featuring refreshments and Walkway memorabilia for sale and fine local musical entertainment. Walkway Over the Hudson has hired Elizabeth Waldstein-Hart to become the nonprofit group’s new executive director effective April 6.
Walkway Over the Hudson will flip the switch on its new LED lighting and electrical system on Saturday evening, May 15, marking the arrival of Spring with a festive fundraising event featuring refreshments and Walkway memorabilia for sale and fine local musical entertainment. Governor David Paterson announced Thursday that the Walkway Over the Hudson project has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Empire State Development Corporation’s Downstate Revitalization Fund, providing a significant boost to the fundraising campaign behind the recently-opened pedestrian and cycling park spanning the Hudson River.
The last 15-ton prefabricated concrete panel was hoisted into place high above the City of Poughkeepsie on Friday morning completing the Walkway Over the Hudson's new concrete deck nearly a month before the scheduled Oct. 2-4 opening of the souring new pedestrian and cycling park.
