Walkway Gateway Project Receives $5,000 Grant

POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie has received a $5,000 matching Greenway Communities Grant for the implementation of the Walkway as Gateway to Success Regional Tourism Program.

Poughkeepsie officials will work with the Walkway and marketing professionals to implement recommendations from a recent branding study to develop new regional wayfinding tools to include maps and brochures highlighting attractions in the area and describing the attributes of the Walkway park.

"The Walkway Over the Hudson is the bow connecting the ribbons of trails throughout the valley," said Hudson River Greenway Acting Executive Director Mark Castiglione. He said Poughkeepsie and partner groups are taking "a bold step to leverage the Walkway as a gateway to connecting visitors to other resources within the surrounding community and beyond."

Mayor John Tkazyik said Poughkeepsie serves as "the hub of cultural and business activities" as well as the Dutchess County Seat.

"We are always looking for new ways to reach visitors and inform them of the many wonderful assets of the city," Tkazyik said.
