New Ambassador Training
March 9 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
We are delighted to hear that you are interesting in joining the Walkway Ambassador program. Our volunteer program has been recognized by New York State as a model for other park volunteer programs statewide.
As a Walkway Ambassador, you would:
• Create a welcoming environment for all visitors and peers
• Promote safety at all times, being aware of visitors and surroundings
• Provide information and guidance on “what to do in the area” – field trips are occasionally offered to Ambassadors.
• Sell Walkway apparel and souvenirs
• Lead tours and communicate the work of the organization
• Promote membership and volunteer recruitment
Your initial training will includes a 3 hour class, on the Walkway training with a mentor, plus an tour at a later date. You will be partnered with a mentor to learn more about your role and how to support our merchandise pavilions. You would start volunteering shortly after the classroom session is over by working with your mentor. Once you complete at 10 hours of volunteering, we will have a formal vesting ceremony on the Walkway in May or June.
In addition to completing the required training, volunteers provide their own transportation and commit to serve at least 35 hours per year helping with events and programs, with 16 of those hours working in the merchandise pavilions.
The Spring training will be Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the New York State Parks office in Poughkeepsie (5 Parker Avenue).
We offer field trips to various parks and historic sites within a 40-mile radius to help volunteers point out to visitors other attractions that are available in the area. After a year of volunteering, continuing education is offered for such classes as CPR and First Aid certification classes, Docent training, etc.
Additional information will be sent to you following your registration. If you have any questions, please contact Theresa Sanchez, Director of Programs and Visitor Services, at 845-454-9649 or email@example.com.
