Walkway Talk: Rowing & Regattas on the Hudson River

Join Bill Davies and Josh Stratton for an interesting and informative look at the history of rowing and regattas on the Hudson River.
Bill Davies began his rowing career on the lightweight crew at Wesleyan University. After earning an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, he joined IBM’s Semiconductor Division in Fishkill, and worked there for 33 years. He began rowing his single on the Hudson River shortly after moving to the Hudson Valley and continues to row competitively at the Master’s level. He is a past president of the Mid Hudson Rowing Association (MHRA). He is currently retired and continues to coach both sweeps and sculls for MHRA. In addition to rowing in retirement, Bill spends time biking and skiing and on woodworking projects for his 100-year-old craftsman house in Poughkeepsie.
Josh Stratton is a local rower and coach who began rowing at FDR high school in 1994. Stratton attended USRowing Selection Camp for the USRowing Junior National Team during his high school career before attending Syracuse University where he captained the crew his junior and senior years. At Syracuse, Stratton attended the IRA National Championships, was a four-year letter winner as well as a two-time varsity captain. Josh is currently the president of the Hudson River Rowing Association, is an active masters rower and coaches men’s rowing at Marist College, where he’s coached 8 years.
