Light The Path Forward

The Walkway is Supported by Steel, Concrete, and You!

A strong and vibrant Walkway community improves regional tourism and leads to economic prosperity for the Hudson Valley, helps local charities raise funds for worthy causes, connects friends and family to create long-lasting memories in a unique way, and helps us all stay fit and healthy by providing a vehicle-free place to exercise. Learn more about how the Walkway is positively impacting the region at walkway.org/qualityoflife.

Your donation means...

...we can continue adding transformative amenities to the Walkway. Past support has built two Friends Pavilions, Welcome Centers (with indoor restrooms), the East Gate Plaza, a 21-story glass-enclosed elevator, and state-of-the-art solar lighting on the deck. Next up, we're hoping to add colorful LED lighting around the Walkway's overlooks (the three points where the bridge deck widens on your journey across), increase accessibility for all by modernizing the approaches and parking lots in both Poughkeepsie and Highland, and improve the neighborhoods in which the Walkway resides by beautifying spaces for community use.

...we can continue supporting the more than 150 volunteer Ambassadors that embody the spirit of the Walkway. Ambassadors greet guests and provide out-of-town visitors with a welcoming first impression of the Hudson Valley, guide tours of the park, share local knowledge, help events run smoothly, make sure everyone can enjoy a souvenir from their visit, assist our New York State Parks team, and so much more.

...we can continue hosting free or low-cost family-friendly community events like Sunrise Stroll (the bridge is open early), Walkway at Night (the bridge is open late), the 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, Walkway Talks lecture series, and our popular Mayfest and Walktoberfest Farmers and Makers markets.

...we can continue supporting veterans in the Hudson Valley by hosting monthly flag changing ceremonies on the Walkway in partnership with the American Legion, hiring our heroes to work in the park, and bringing the community together in solemn remembrance on Memorial Day.

...we can continue working with nonprofit partners in Poughkeepsie and Kingston to hire, train, and supervise local teenagers spending their summer gaining real world experience and earning a paycheck by working on the Walkway. Members of our SWAP Team - Student Walkway Assistant Program - help out with various tasks and events both in the park and in our office.

...we can continue operating a safe, no-cost, vehicle-free place for members of the local community to exercise. Countless studies show that access to off-road, interesting public spaces promoting wellness improve individual health outcomes. Walkway Over the Hudson routinely hosts runs, walks, bicycling, spin classes, Tai Chi classes, yoga classes, and much more to keep area residents active.

...we can continue serving as the gateway to the Hudson Valley. With so much to see and do just beyond the gates of the Walkway, it's imperative that our visitors have access to information about the terrific shops, restaurants, historic sites, and amazing experiences located just steps away from the park.
