Greater Walkway Experience

The Greater Walkway Experience is all about exploration.

If you stand high above the Hudson River at the center of Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, a stunning panorama will unfold around you. We call this the “360 Degrees of Discovery,” where an opportunity beckons in every direction.

This site is designed to assist in your journey. You’ll find that Walkway State Park makes landfall in the Town of Lloyd, Ulster County on the western shore of the Hudson River and, in the east, the bridge connects with the City of Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County. Each of these host communities offers a rich array of cultural, historical, recreational and hospitality venues for you to sample and experience.

The Greater Walkway Experience map above provides an overview of the various Discovery Zones and their distinct geography and cultural features, including a handy legend that gives approximate distances to each zone from either the western or eastern gates to Walkway State Park. This website provides a more in depth look at each of the nine Discovery Zones—four in the Town of Lloyd and five in the City of Poughkeepsie—that host unique features and attractions worthy of your exploration. They include:

Town of Lloyd

City of Poughkeepsie

You’ll find a page here devoted to each discovery zone and describing its own particular attributes. As you venture out, either on foot or bike, from Walkway State Park you’ll be assisted on the ground by color coded signs that point the way to the zones you’re interested in exploring. And once you’ve arrived in one of the zones you’ll find signs dotting the landscape and neighborhoods that dive deep into the cultural and historical significance of that area.

We hope this site helps you discover something new and exciting in the heart of the Hudson Valley. The Greater Walkway Experience awaits!
