How to Get Here

Location

The Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park spans the Hudson River between the City of Poughkeepsie, New York on the east (Dutchess County) and the Town of Lloyd, Highland, New York (Ulster County) on the west.

Train

Take Amtrak or the Hudson Line to the Metro North Poughkeepsie Station.

Free Shuttle: Show your Metro-North ticket at Mahoney's Irish Pub and Steakhouse (845-471-7026) or River Station (845-452-9207), popular eateries across from the Poughkeepsie Station, for a 20% discount off your meal. Then hop on the free Walkway shuttle that Mahoney's Irish Pub and Steakhouse provides to its patrons.  The shuttle will return you to the train after your walk on the Walkway.

Taxi: Taxis are available at the Poughkeepsie Station and the Walkway is just a 5-minute ride from the station.

Walk: The Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park Elevator provides a direct connection from the Poughkeepsie waterfront to the park. Exit the train station at the North Water Street exit. Walk North on Water Street and enter the gates to Upper Landing Park. Use the elevator entrance at Upper Landing Park and ride the 21 story elevator to the park. It is a 15 minute walk.

Car

Walk

Walk north along the Poughkeepsie waterfront at Waryas Park and take the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park Elevator at Upper Landing Park. It is a 5-10 minute walk.

Boat

The American Cruise Line docks at the Poughkeepsie waterfront at Waryas Park.  Walk north along the Poughkeepsie waterfront at Waryas Park and take the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park Elevator at Upper Landing Park. It is a 5-10 minute walk.

Bike

Use any of the Dutchess Rail Trail or Hudson Valley Rail Trail trailheads to launch your bike ride to the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park.

Directions to Park Entrances

There are three park entrances on the east side of the Hudson River in the City of Poughkeepsie, NY and one entrance on the west side of the Hudson River in the Town of Lloyd, Highland, NY.

Accessibility: There are handicap designated parking spaces available on east and west entrances (Parker Avenue and Haviland Road). The Walkway is wheelchair accessible and motorized scooters or other power-assisted mobility devices are allowed (for the handicapped only).  There are no equipment rentals on site.   There is a wheelchair available at the entrance of the park on a first-come, first-served basis.

Signage:  The park offers interpretive signs at the bridge’s entrances as well as along the railings, in English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, and Italian.

The 21-Story Elevator

Just a 15 minute walk from Metro North's Poughkeepsie train station, the Walkway State Historic Park elevator is a key nexus linking the developing Poughkeepsie waterfront to the Walkway State Historic Park.The ADA compliant elevator can be accessed through the gates at Upper Landing Park or through the platform located at the east overlook on the Walkway

The Walkway Waterfront Elevator will become a destination unto itself, as well as a primary new gateway to the extremely popular Walkway State Historic Park, effectively linking the developing Poughkeepsie waterfront and the Metro North Train Station to the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge.

Take your ride up the 210 ft elevator for the most outstanding views of the Hudson!

Note: Only service animals are allowed on the elevator.
