Hudson Valley Magazine Readers Name Walkway 2019 Best Park, Rail/Bike Trail

As Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park celebrates its ten-year anniversary in October 2019, the readers of Hudson Valley Magazine have declared it to be the region’s Best Park and Best Rail/Bike Trail, according to the results of the annual “Best of the Hudson Valley” voting.

This one-of-a-kind park, also the world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge at 1.28 miles across, stands 212 feet above the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland, New York and is visited by more than 500,000 people per year. The Walkway provides unique access to the Hudson River’s breathtaking landscape for pedestrians, hikers, joggers, bicyclists, and people with disabilities. Supported by a diverse coalition of members, donors, and corporate sponsors, the bridge frequently hosts community events and fundraisers, and is open daily from 7 a.m. until sunset, weather permitting.

The Walkway is also the “great connector” between the 14-mile William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail on the east side of the Hudson River and the four-mile Hudson Valley Rail Trail on the west. This unique 18-mile stretch of trail, with various options including the Walkway Loop Trail across the Mid-Hudson Bridge, was inducted into the Rail Trail Hall of Fame in 2016.
