Parks Build Community, People Keep Them Strong

Because of supporters like you, Walkway Over the Hudson is more than a park.  It’s where our community connects, celebrates, and finds inspiration every day.

Friends of the Walkway connects people to the park through youth education, inclusive programming, and improvements that enhance safety, access, and belonging.

Together, we’re not just maintaining a landmark; we’re nurturing a place that inspires connection, belonging, and pride across the Hudson Valley.

In 2025, Building Community Meant:

  • Expanding educational access, welcoming every fourth grader from the City of Poughkeepsie for free field trips—many visiting their hometown park for the very first time.
  • Doubling our Walkway Connections programs, offering free, hands-on, family-friendly events like treasure hunts, pumpkin painting, and Hudson River learning activities.
  • Hosting our largest-ever I Love My Park Day and community volunteer days, bringing hundreds together to care for this special place.
  • Growing our AmeriCorps partnership, adding new service members who lead youth programs and help us reach more visitors.
  • Enhancing accessibility, expanding tram operations and creating more opportunities for visitors of all abilities to enjoy the park.
  • Celebrating community, through signature events like Pride, Veterans Appreciation Night, and dozens of walks and fundraisers that lifted local causes.

These milestones happened because of our donors, and they prove something powerful: when we invest in parks, we strengthen the communities around them.

In 2026, Friends of the Walkway will continue connecting people to the park through education, inclusion, and improvements that ensure everyone can belong.

Your gift today will help keep Walkway Over the Hudson a park that lifts and connects our community.
