Pause for Paws: Keeping Furry Friends Safe on the Walkway During Summer Heat

Happy First Day of Summer! Meet “Ambassadog” Nico, who volunteers with his Walkway Ambassador “parents” Tom and Phyllis Smith. Here are some tips to keep our furry Walkway companions like Nico safe in the summer heat.

  1. Before going out on the bridge, check the pavement temp by placing your hand or a bare foot on the surface for 10 seconds. If it is too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet.
  2. Avoid the hottest parts of the day. Walk early in the morning or late in the evening after the pavement has cooled down.
  3. Invest in a pair of booties to protects your dog’s paws from hot pavement.
  4. Bring plenty of water for you and your pet!

See you on the Walkway!
