3RD ANNUAL WALKWAY MARATHON FINISHES STRONG

Nearly 2,200 Runners Competed in Three Races on Sunday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—Nearly 2,200 athletes were joined by thousands of spectators, supporters, and volunteers along the Poughkeepsie waterfront on Sunday for the third annual Walkway Marathon Race Series, bringing an event full of fun and competition to the Hudson Valley on a clear sunny morning.

  • Full Marathon: The best overall time in the full marathon was posted by Spencer Johnson, age 22 of Bristol, CT, with a time of 2:39:32. The top female athlete in the full marathon was Rachel Darling, age 24, of Highland, NY, with a time of 3:08:51.
  • Wheelchair Marathon: The best overall time in the wheelchair marathon was won by Peter Gagliardo, age 32, of Poughquag, NY, with a time of 2:17:25. The top female athlete in the wheelchair marathon was Maria Bournias, age 40, of Tenafly, NJ, with a time of 3:24:47.
  • Half Marathon: The best overall time in the half marathon was Ruslan Kramariuk, age 25, of Kitsman, Ukraine with a time of 1:15:39. The top female athlete in the half marathon was Kristen Gregory, age 36 of New York, NY, with a time of 1:31:28.
  • College-to-College 5K: The best overall time in the 5K was Stefan Morton, age 21, of Emerson, NJ, with a time of 15:00. The top female athlete in the 5K was Nicki Nesi, age 23, of Pelham, NY, with a time of 18:05.

Walkway Offers Spectacular Views of July 4th Fireworks Event

Tickets for Walkway members available on May 30; on sale to general public on June 1

POUGHKEEPSIE—The Walkway organization will once again offer ticketholders an incredible view of the City of Poughkeepsie’s annual fireworks display from Walkway Over the Hudson State Park on the Fourth of July.

Tickets to this annual community event sponsored by the Walkway Over the Hudson and other area businesses can be purchased online or at participating local establishments (see below).  Proceeds help fund fireworks, emergency services, and Walkway programs.

Walkway Members will be able to purchase tickets online only for $10.00 each at walkway.org starting at noon on Tuesday, May 30.  The general public will be able to purchase tickets for $12.50 each online at noon on Thursday, June 1 or in participating stores. Children 10 and under are free although registration and tickets are required.  Everyone entering the park must have a ticket for admittance to the eventPurchase Tickets

“Watching fireworks from high above the Hudson River on the Walkway is an amazing experience!” said Walkway Executive Director Elizabeth Waldstein-Hart. “That’s why this event has become an annual tradition for many Hudson Valley residents—a wonderful way to celebrate Independence Day in the Hudson River Valley.”

Tickets to this annual community event sponsored by the Walkway Over the Hudson and other area businesses can be purchased online or at participating local establishments (see below).  Proceeds help fund fireworks, emergency services, and Walkway programs.

Please note that tickets have sold out in previous years. In the unlikely event that tickets are not sold out in advance, remaining tickets will be available for purchase (cash preferred) at both the Highland and Poughkeepsie entrances of the bridge.

On Tuesday, July 4th the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park will close to the public at 5:30 p.m. for setup and safety preparations, then will reopen at 7:00 p.m. for those with tickets. The City of Poughkeepsie fireworks display will begin between 9-9:30 p.m.

If the fireworks are postponed due to severe weather, the event will be rescheduled for Friday, July 7. Notification will occur via the Walkway Over the Hudson Facebook page and walkway.org.

Due to the nature of the 4th of July event, all ticket holders must adhere to these special event guidelines:

  • Recommend tickets be purchased in advance. Tickets are limited.
  • There will be NO elevator access during the event.
  • NO dogs or bicycles will be allowed on the Walkway.
  • NO rollerblades, skateboards, scooters or firearms.
  • Walkway is a smoke- and alcohol-free park.
  • Visitors are advised to bring a flashlight.

TICKETS

  • $10.00 for Walkway members, available for purchase online only at noon on Tuesday, May 26, 2017 at walkway.org.
  • $12.50 for the general public, available for purchase online at walkway.org or at participating stores at noon on Thursday, June 1. Participating locations include:
    • Adams Fairacre Farms in Poughkeepsie & Wappingers Falls
    • Pomod’oro Pizza Cafe in Highland
    • Ma & Pa’s Kettle Corn at the Walkway Highland Entrance
    • Walkway State Park Pavilions at the Poughkeepsie & Highland Entrances
       
  • Children 10 and under are free and but must register for free tickets at www.walkway.org.

PLEASE NOTE: All ticket sales are final. No refunds will be issued to ticket holders.

Those with tickets are encouraged to carpool and to park at various City of Poughkeepsie and Town of Lloyd locations, or approved on-street parking spaces, and allow ample time to get to the Walkway in time for the fireworks. Ticket holders may access the Walkway from either the East or West entrances. On July 4 the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park and Elevator will close at 5:30 PM. The Park will re-open at 7:00 p.m. but the elevator will remain closed.
