Walkway Explorers Youth Programs

Connecting students to place, history, and the Hudson River through hands-on, place-based learning experiences for school groups, scouts, homeschoolers, and youth organizations.

At Walkway Over the Hudson, the Walkway becomes a living classroom where students explore history, science, and the environment through direct experience. Our programs are designed to inspire curiosity, support classroom learning, and create meaningful connections to the Hudson Valley.

Guided Educational Programs

Our educator-led programs transform a Walkway visit into an engaging, interactive learning experience.

Students will:
  • Explore the history of the Walkway and surrounding region
  • Learn about the Hudson River ecosystem and local ecology
  • Hear stories of influential figures, including Sojourner Truth
  • Connect real-world observations to classroom learning
Programs are tailored to your group’s age, interests, and curriculum.

Walkway Explorers (Ages 6–12)

Our signature youth program, inspired by the National Park Service Junior Ranger model.

This hands-on, activity-based experience includes:
  • STEAM-aligned learning activities
  • Connections to New York State Social Studies standards
  • Interactive exploration of environmental science, geography, and local history
Students who complete the program earn a Walkway Explorer patch and sticker, celebrating their achievement and deepening their connection to the Walkway.

Educators receive optional resources and activities to support learning before, during, and after their visit.
