Parks Build Community

Friends Make Parks Great

As we look to the future, the Friends of the Walkway nonprofit organization is committed to expanding our programming, further engaging the Hudson Valley, and launching new initiatives to make Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park a more inclusive and accessible space – one that reflects the makeup and values of the communities we serve.

The power of parks lies in creating a place where people of all ages, genders, races, languages, sexual orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds can come together – completely free to them – and truly be on equal footing.

While the Walkway Over the Hudson may not be your typical park space, there is no other park that builds community in quite the same way as the Walkway does. More than 600,000 people visit the bridge each year

Whether you are a parent coming to the Walkway to teach your kid to ride a bike for the first time, using the Walkway to get your miles in as you train for your next big race, joining the weekly Veteran meet up to find camaraderie amongst your peers, or taking advantage of Walkway’s electric tram to relish the beauty of the Hudson River – an experience you may not have been able to have otherwise without that assistance...Walkway Over the Hudson is for you.

If you are one of the thousands of school aged children who come to park each year with their class to learn about the history of our region, just out for a stroll to see our amazing views, or an individual coming to seek motivation, peace, and respite as you fight through a difficult time in your life…Walkway Over the Hudson is for you, too.

Our valued donors are the lifeblood of the Walkway, not only sustaining its vibrancy but also driving our programming and the continuous enhancement of this beloved space. They empower us to improve the park with new amenities, coordinate volunteers, and host events that enhance the Walkway experience for all.

Now is the time to join our community.

Just as it took so many of us coming together to turn the dream of the Walkway into a reality, it will take all of us working together to ensure that we fulfill our vast potential.  And together, we can make the Walkway Over the Hudson a place where belonging, inclusion, and community continue to flourish.

Join us on this exciting journey, and let's build a brighter future together!
