With a run directly over the Hudson River, participants will experience breathtaking views of the historic Hudson River Valley from the Catskill Mountains to the Hudson Highlands. Alpha Win’s motto ‘A Distance for Everyone’ holds true, as the event will feature five race distances in one day including a marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, and one-mile race. Walkway Over the Hudson is conveniently located just minutes from the Poughkeepsie Train Station, making travel to the event from New York City, Albany, and beyond simple and efficient. There’s so much to see and do as part of the Greater Walkway Experience, including a visit to nearby historic sites like the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Home and Museum or the Vanderbilt Estate on the Hudson River. The park is in close proximity to SUNY New Paltz, Vassar College, Marist College and the Culinary Institute of America, adding to the appeal of this eclectic and vibrant area.
The Walkway Over the Hudson is the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. Originally opened as the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge in 1889, it was rebuilt as the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park and re-opened for public use in October 2009. Since then, the Walkway has provided a one-of-a-kind way to experience the Hudson Valley. The Walkway is fully ADA handicapped-accessible from both ends and the approach on the west is flat and level from the large parking area. On the east side of the Hudson River, a 21-story wheelchair accessible glass-enclosed elevator operates seasonally to connect the Walkway to the waterfront and train station below.
