Olivia Babcock's great-great-great grandfather, James B. Richards, was a civil engineer and the foreman for the original railroad that eventually became the Walkway Over the Hudson.
The Walkway Over the Hudson is a unique part of living in the Hudson Valley. It is a great place to go not only to exercise, but to also appreciate the beauty of the Hudson River. If you are lucky enough to visit the Walkway in autumn, it truly is a beautiful sight. The leaves are bright hues of red, orange and yellow. The crisp wind blows in your face. However, for me, every walk on the Walkway connects me to my family’s history.

Walkway's elevator to Upper Landing Park in Poughkeepsie is currently operating Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 90 minutes prior to the park's closing. It will open 7 days per week after Memorial Day.
SUNDAY, MAY 4 - Due to the high volume of participants in the Hudson Valley Marathon, the Walkway is closed to the general public until 11 a.m.
