About Our Electric Tram
We want all people to be able to experience the Walkway, but not everyone is capable or comfortable venturing out onto the World’s Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge--a 212-foot-high structure that is 1.28 miles in length--to enjoy sweeping, panoramic Hudson Valley views.
To assist seniors, veterans, people with mobility challenges, and those with a fear of heights, the Friends of the Walkway's all-electric 12-passenger, wheelchair accessible tram is in service during select hours.
Tram Schedule and Stops
TRAM OPERATION HAS ENDED FOR THE SEASON. SEE YOU IN SPRING 2024!
The tram loop begins at the East Gate Plaza in Poughkeepsie at 10 a.m. and reaches the Ulster Welcome Center in Highland at approximately 10:30 a.m. The day's final departure from the Ulster Welcome Center is at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The tram is a seasonal service which operates from late March until late November. Reservations are not required. The service is dependent on weather and volunteer availability. We are happy to help visitors who will benefit from this service. Please call 845-454-9649 x110 to learn about changes to the schedule for the tram or elevator.
The tram makes a continuous loop across the bridge. Passengers may embark and disembark at a number of stops:
- East Gate Plaza (Poughkeepsie)
- Elevator Overlook
- Center Overlook (by the flagpole)
- Ulster Welcome Center (Highland)
The speed of the tram as it makes its way across the bridge is dependent on pedestrian traffic. The tram takes approximately 30-45 minutes to cross the length of the bridge.

Reservations are not required for the tram. Outside of regular operating hours, the tram is available for private tours and to support special events. Please contact us at 845-454-9649 x110 or tours@walkway.org for more information.
