1Where is the Walkway Over the Hudson located?
The Walkway Over the Hudson spans the Hudson River and connects the City of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County with the Town of Lloyd and hamlet of Highland in Ulster County, New York. Entrances are located at 87 Haviland Road in Highland, New York and 61 Parker Avenue in Poughkeepsie, New York.
2Where do I park and what does it cost to park?
There is nearby free parking and fee-based parking lots near both entrances to the Walkway.

East/Dutchess: The parking entrance in the City of Poughkeepsie is at 61 Parker Avenue, Poughkeepsie NY 12601 and is operated by NYS Parks. The fee is $5 for 4 hours. Free parking is available at Pulaski Park (170 Washington Street) and along Brookside Avenue between Washington Street and Garden Street. The Washington Street stairs are at 129 Washington Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. The Elevator entrance via Upper Landing Park is 82 North Water Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12602.

West/Ulster: The park entrance in Highland/Town of Lloyd is at 87 Haviland Road, Highland NY 12528. Parking in the upper lot adjacent to the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Caboose at 70 Haviland Road is free. The Town of Lloyd charges for parking along Haviland Road and in the lower lot at 89 Haviland Road just beyond the entrance to the Walkway. The fee is $5 for 4 hours. Access is also provided from the Hudson Valley Rail Trail.

Frequent visitors to NYS Parks across the state may want to consider the Empire Passport -- an annual parking pass that provides access to most NYS Parks and Historic Sites for only $80 per year. The Empire Pass is accepted in Walkway's Poughkeepsie lot.
3Is there any cost to visit the Walkway Over the Hudson?
Visiting the Walkway Over the Hudson is FREE year-round, except during special events like the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular and the Starry Starry Night gala. Check our event calendar to see more about our special events!
4Is the Walkway ADA-compliant? What are the accessibility features?
The entrances at 87 Haviland Road (Highland) and 61 Parker Avenue (Poughkeepsie) and the elevator entrance at Upper Landing Park (Poughkeepsie) are ADA-compliant and accessible, with no stairs required. The elevator is open from 9 a.m. until 90 minutes prior to park closing (weather permitting, it will not operate under threat of thunder, lightning, and high winds). A substantial chest-height safety railing on both sides of this wide, flat and smooth concrete walkway. Please note: Expansion joints on bridge do not meet ADA compliance. Please use caution while traversing. The mobile audio tour that corresponds with the signage on the bridge is available in English, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin Chinese via this website.

6Who profits from merchandise sales? How are donations used?
All profits from merchandise sales and donations at the both the East and West Pavilions support the Walkway's mission to add new amenities, undertake construction projects, and fund community programs in support of local youth, veterans, and those with mobility issues.
7Can I smoke at the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park?
The Walkway is a non-smoking park. Thank you for your cooperation with this policy.
8How long and tall is the bridge?
The Walkway is 1.28 miles from one gate to the other. It stands 212 feet above the Hudson River.
9The elevator is closed, do I need to climb 21 flights of stairs?
No stairs required! The Walkway is accessible via flat, paved walking trails from both the 61 Parker Ave entrance in Poughkeepsie or the 87 Haviland Rd entrance in Highland. These entrances are wheelchair and stroller friendly.
