Upstate seems far and unreachable, but in reality, it only takes a couple of hours to escape the city and enjoy the great outdoors. The drive north along the Hudson River is absolutely beautiful, so make sure to set your GPS to stay as close to the river as possible.
On your way north, stop at the Walkway Over the Hudson, a nearly 1.5-mile pedestrian bridge 200 feet above the Hudson River. Stop to take some panoramic pictures, and even head to Poughkeepsie for an early lunch.
Walkway's elevator, merchandise and information pavilions, and electric tram have ended operation for the season. Indoor restrooms remain open near each gate throughout the year.
