Walkway Talks: Qigong and Meditative Movement

On Saturday, May 13 from 10-11 a.m. at the Ulster Welcome Center in Highland, learn how to relax the body, calm the mind, and uplift the spirit with meditative movement called qigong. Combining gentle, flowing movement, breathing practices and meditation techniques, qigong is simple, easy to do, fun, and good for body and mind. All ages and abilities are welcome at this free event.

Qigong draws on the dynamic balance of Yin and Yang, the flow of Nature, and the movement of the seasons. All living things are part of Nature, and are more likely to thrive when living in alignment with natural laws and cycles. But when out of alignment because of life’s stresses or challenging times, physical systems and emotions can be disturbed, and manifest as discomfort or even disease. By practicing qigong, we can re-balance ourselves, realign with the flow of Nature, and return body, heart, mind and spirit to vitality, serenity, equilibrium and wellness.

Kele Baker is a senior trainer for Holden Qigong and the Institute of Integral Qigong & Tai Chi, providing professional teacher training, masterclasses and one-to-one mentoring for new teachers around the world. This summer she will be co-leading a Tai Chi Easy training course at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck. Kele teaches qigong and tai chi online as well as locally at the Walkway Over the Hudson (Flow Like the River) and at Live Inspired fitness studio. She has previously taught for Vassar College LLI and Marist College CLS, and served on the board of directors of the National Qigong Association and Healer Within Foundation. When whiplash from a car accident interrupted her professional dance career, qigong and tai chi helped Kele recover her equilibrium, flexibility, strength and inner resilience.
