Walkway Talks: The Brainchild of Harvey Eastman
August 18 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Presented by Jim Bennett at the East Gate Plaza in Poughkeepsie from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
This presentation will tell the story of how the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge was the brainchild of Mayor Harvey Eastman and how that idea finally came to fruition in the late 1800s. It deals with Eastman’s vision and the roadblocks he faced, and the laying of the cornerstone, which was a huge event for the time. The delay and eventual building of the bridge will be discussed as well as the final abandonment and rebuild. Finally, Jim will talk about his novel, The Poughkeepsie Murder, and its connection to the Walkway.
