Stony Point Battlefield

- The British captured this rocky bluff from the Americans in May 1779 and began constructing a fort in an effort to protect the southern entrance to the Hudson Highlands
- Two months later, Major General Anthony Wayne launched a daring nighttime attack that surprised the British and allowed American forces to regain control of the point
- Museum exhibits and interpretive trails retell the the story of the fort's dramatic capture
- The site also boasts the Hudson River's oldest lighthouse, built in 1826
